Ketchup Baked Beans

This super simple baked beans recipe is made using ketchup and is perfect for days when you need to go to the store but haven’t gone yet!

I made up this recipe when trying to stretch the groceries out a few extra days and made it with things I happened to have on hand at the moment.

It’s pretty basic, but turned out rather well considering. It’s especially good with bread and butter.

How To Make Ketchup Baked Beans

First, soak 2 cups of white beans overnight. Drain and rinse them and then bring to a boil. Simmer the beans for one and a half to two hours or until they are soft. (You could also sprout your beans before cooking them if you’re planning this more ahead.)

If you ever have issues with your beans not getting soft after being soaked and cooking for two hours it’s likely you are using old beans. I usually use those to make sensory bins for the kids to play in and just buy fresher ones for eating.

Once the beans are cooked, strain the liquid.

In a large bowl, mix together half a bottle of Costco ketchup (FIND OZ), two tablespoons minced garlic, a dash of Worcestershire sauce, a dash of maple syrup, and a teaspoon of salt.

Add the beans and coat them evenly with the sauce. Spoon them into a 9×13 casserole dish and cover with foil. Bake for one hour, removing the foil for the last ten minutes.

And there you go! Super basic baked beans made with ketchup. My fifteen year old saw me pull these out of the oven and devoured about half the pan for lunch!
