Having a beautiful yard is important, and garden lighting can really add some extra special zing to your space. Just because you raise vegetables doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful.
I made a few impulse buys at Costco and they both worked out wonderfully for my patio and raised beds. If you can add any lighting to your outdoor space it will instantly improve it’s look and vibe!

Garden Lighting For Pretty Nights Outdoors
We have a GIANT patio at our house that was one of my favorite features when we were considering buying it. One day I was heading to the bagged salad section of Costco when I passed boxes of string lights on sale. Well who can pass THAT up?
I grabbed one and hung them along part of the perimeter and have not once regretted it. They’ve been up long enough I ordered replacement bulbs off Costco’s website and I have now replaced each bulb at least once.
The plan is to paint the unfinished wood white. Earlier this year I snagged a second box of lights so they will reach completely around when we rehang after painting.
Add String Lights
If you have the chance to add string lights to your garden lighting TAKE IT! I have yet to see string lights that didn’t make the space look brighter, cozier, and more inviting.
The type we have are the Feit Electric 48′ LED Filament String Light Set. They’ve been up for years now and I’m very happy with them.

The string lights are in the upper left corner of the above picture. On the right side you can see some solar path lights that I have lining my raised garden beds. I love the look of these, but I don’t love the specific ones we bought.
Add Path Lights
I also bought the path lights from Costco. They’re solar powered, which is nice. They came with little pointy plastic sticks that you’re supposed to stab into the ground, but it really doesn’t work very well. They end up tipping and falling over.
I’ve had two lights completely die, and all the others need frequently re-stuck into the ground. The plastic stakes have broken off too. At this point I’m just digging holes and “planting” them by their posts!
If you have a great pathway light you’ve used in your yard, please feel free to share in the comments!
Despite their practical failings, I love looking out over my garden beds and seeing the pathway lights brightening it up at night. As soon as I find the right brand, these babies are going to be all over my yard and garden.
Add Feature Lights
Once you’ve got some string lights for ambiance, some pathway lights for practicality, you can add more lighting features for fun! If you have any kind of special features in your yard such as beautiful trees, a pool, or any water features, get some lighting on them!
Opt for warmer yellow lights versus harsh blue lights. It will be more welcoming and inviting. Aim for a warm glow instead of a spot light effect.
In areas that need safety lighting, you can also try opting for a smart bulb so you can change the brightness and hue of the light depending on what you need at the time. Our front porch light is a smart bulb.
Most of the time it’s a low key yellow. However, when we doing a project late at night, needing to bring stuff in from the car after a big trip, or things like that, I can quickly brighten it up. It also turns itself on and off on a schedule to save electricity.
Adding some simple garden lighting is a great way to beautify your garden, backyard, and other outdoor spaces!
